Prof. Dr. Abdurezak Abdulahi Hashi is a scholar of human sciences and bioethics with more than fifteen years of experience in university teaching, postgraduate supervision, and academic research. He holds a PhD in Theology and Comparative Religion (2008), a Master of Arts (2003), and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (2001), all from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he later served as Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science.

His scholarship sits at the meeting point of the sciences and ethics. He has authored academic books, encyclopedia entries, and refereed journal articles published in Australia, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Turkey, Lebanon, Singapore, and India, several of which are used as university reference texts worldwide. He has been an invited speaker at institutions including the University of Chicago, Suffolk University, the Australian National University, and the Cambridge Institute of Education.

Prof. Hashi has led major research programmes, including a Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education grant on the ethical and legal dimensions of tissue engineering, and a John Templeton Foundation grant on fostering connections between science and theology for medical students. He is a former editor-in-chief of the journal Revelation and Science, coordinator of a postgraduate programme in bioethics, and recipient of the Best Lecturer Award (2014) and the Murabbi Award (2022).

As Deputy Rector for Academic Affairs, he oversees curriculum quality, academic standards, and the university’s teaching and learning agenda.
